Residential Treatment Services
In 1997, GEO branched into the residential health services arena with its wholly-owned subsidiary GEO Care, Inc. Since then, GEO Care has become an integral part of our business platform by establishing itself as a premier provider of mental health management and treatment services for civil, forensic, and special needs psychiatric patient populations.
GEO Care provides high-quality, innovative and effective behavioral and other special needs health care in an effort to promote recovery and empower the people we serve to acquire and use the skills and supports necessary to achieve maximum independence, success, and satisfaction. The formation of GEO Care is part of a planned program for diversification into businesses related to our core services and builds on our expertise in community-based residential re-entry services, residential treatment for youthful offenders, comprehensive correctional health care, including alcohol and drug dependency services, group and individual therapy, as well as other institutional health care programs.
GEO Care has been partnering with state and local government agencies for over 10 years. Since then, we’ve revolutionized our operations and provide services in the following areas:
Civil Mental Health Services – Provides civil psychiatric hospital services to severely and persistently mentally ill adults who are involuntarily committed when community treatment alternatives are no longer effective.
Forensic Mental Health Services – Provides mental health assessments and psychiatric rehabilitation to individuals who have been declared incompetent to proceed to trial (ITP) or not guilty by reason of insanity (NGI) by the state circuit courts.
Sex Offender Treatment Services – Programs designed to treat individuals who have been civilly committed and are pre-disposed to commit violent sexual acts that endanger the health and safety of others.
Community-Based Residential Re-entry – Our community-based dividion provides offenders, nearing the end of their sentence, with the education and resources necessary to productively transition back into society.
Residential Treatment for Youthful Offenders – Our Abraxas Division provides residential and shelter care combined with behavioral health, educational rehabilitation and treatment programs for youthful male and female offenders.
Correctional Health Services – Provide mental health, medical, substance abuse and other treatment services in correctional settings, including GEO's correctional facilities.
GEO Care achievements:
- Privatized the first comprehensive state psychiatric hospital in the United States
